In this regard, exact natural frequencies for the non prismatic column member have been found. Power series approximation is used to solve the fourth –order differential equation of motion of non-prismatic columns resting on an elastic foundation with variable coefficients. This method is applied to solve the undamped free vibration problem for simply supported, clamped–free, and fixed-pined non prismatic columns and frames. Examples are presented to check validity and accuracy of present method. The procedure applied in this paper, is based on the similarity between vibrational and buckling mode shapes and using the principle of stationary total potential energy. A good agreement is observed between the result of proposed method and the result of other numerical and theoretical methods in terms of buckling load. The method can be applied for the buckling load computation of prismatic members as well as non prismatic members.
