000013736 520__ $$2eng$$aStorage racks are structural systems that can carry loads much larger than their own weights. Due to their slender nature in terms of both cross-section dimensions and height, they may be susceptible to local and global failures as a result of accidental and seismic loadings. Although limited, damage in rack structures has been reported following recent earthquakes [1]. This study presents results of seismic analyses of storage rack structures subject to near-field and farfield ground motion records. Local behaviour of beam-to-column connection has been employed based on previous cantilever test results of subassemblages [2]. These local connection models were used in global analysis of the whole rack systems. Racks with different spans and storeys were analyzed by taking both material and geometrical nonlinearity effects into account. Ground motion data with two and three components were used to obtain a reliable response of the rack structures to different seismic load histories. It was seen that including rate-dependent material model and vertical component of seismic ground motion changes overall seismic behaviour considerably.
