000013816 520__ $$2eng$$aThis research investigates the fundamental physics of smart materials under shock compression, and presents concepts that can be exploited for active shock mitigation. The results indicate momentum can be transferred through electro-magnetic field, not just mechanically. This enables new approaches to actively controlling the properties of materials subjected to impact or explosive generated shock.
