000013823 520__ $$2eng$$aWe propose a novel 2D multiring numerical model to compute blood flow in arteries, inspired from the multilayer shallow water theory. This model is based on a long wave approximation of the Navier-Stokes equations and requires no a priori estimation, contrary to classical 1D models. The wall shear stress (WSS), the axial velocity profiles and the flow rate computed with the multiring model are in good agreement with the linear Womersley solution whereas classical 1D models’ solutions are much less accurate.
