The coalescence between discrete modes and continuous spectra was studied with the non-parallel flow effects taken into account. Investigations were performed in Mach=4.5 flat plate boundary layers by solving the expansion of parabolized stability equations (EPSE). The stability analysis indicates that fast mode can cross the branch cuts of vorticity/entropy waves continuously, i.e., the fast mode is a normal mode of discrete spectrum. The unstable supersonic mode can also cross the branch cuts of slow acoustic waves continuously. It suggests that the coalescence between discrete modes and continuous spectra can be avoided by including non-parallel effects.
