For this purpose, a hierarchical finite element formulation is developed based on trigonometric hierarchical functions. Comparison of the hierarchical finite element solution with the Rayleigh-Ritz and a higher-order finite element solution is performed. A parametric study is conducted on the internally-tapered composite beams to investigate the effects of boundary conditions, width-ratio, thickness-tapering angle, and damping on the free vibration response.
