Matched asymptotic analysis is used to derive a reduced set of PDEs governing the coupled dynamics of the fissure and uniform momentum zones in the limit Re → ∞. The analysis clarifies the nature of the hypothesized interaction and provides an equation set that is suitable for efficient multiscale numerical simulations.
