000014706 520__ $$2eng$$aIn the present study, direct numerical simulations (DNS) are performed to investigate the effects of thermal and chemical nonequilibrium on hypersonic turbulent boundary layers. In order to isolate the non-equilibrium effects, spatial developments of mean quantities, turbulence statistics and near-wall structures in non-equilibrium flows are compared with those in perfect gas flows. It is observed that the turbulent motions are intensified due to the non-equilibrium processes. Meanwhile, no direct energy exchanges between internal and turbulent kinetic energies are observed. The mechanisms of non-equilibrium effects on the flow fields are discussed in detail.
