By introducing a volumetric strain relation enforced as a constraint to the free energy function via a Lagrange multiplier, we consider separately the reaction dilation and the swelling due to imbibition of external molecules. The model is illustrated by two examples and the kinetic characters of these processes are analyzed under various ratios of characteristic time of diffilsion and reaction.
