000015381 520__ $$2eng$$aA modification of a multibody formulation making use of generalized strains is proposed in which the generalized strains are defined by implicit constraint functions. This modification yields a greater freedom in defining these strains so they can more closely fit the actual behaviour of deformable finite elements. Modified planar and spatial beam elements are presented. Examples involving large deflections of beams are presented to show the improved performance of the modified elements.
