ASSESSMENT OF HANGARS FOR CIVIL AIRPLANES UNDER WIND FLOW WITH RESPECT TO RESISTANCE AND STRUCTURE STABILITY

Abstract eng:
The paper assess a behavior and an impact of the air flow on two hangar buildings. For the first hangar the investigation was carried out using both wind tunnel testing and computational fluid dynamics (CFD). In case of the second one only the computation approach was applied. Its primary aim was to determine the pressure field on the building surfaces. Special attention was devoted to the roofing constructions. The bearing steel roof arch with tendons of the first hangar can have considerable influence on the loading and stability of the suspended roof. The second hangar is in comparison with the foregoing one slightly smaller and a solid roof structure is composed of trelliswork arches. Computation and measurement were performed for several configurations of the hangars depending on the position of the entrance gates and the wind flow direction. Experimental data were compared with results of numerical analysis, that has been based on the so-called stabilized NavierStokes equations. The stabilization was ensured by means of the Galerkin-Least square method implemented into the open code COMSOL. Very good agreement between the experiment and the numerical model has been achieved. Both used aerodynamic techniques proved, that the resulting pressure values do not exceed the design limits. ´
