TOWARDS MICROSTRUCTURE-BASED RANDOM FIELD MODELS OF HETEROGENEOUS MEDIA

Abstract eng:
In this contribution, we present and mutually compare three approaches to the analysis of finite heterogeneous elastic bodies with a random arrangement of individual phases. The examined methods are the representatives of perturbation techniques, non-perturbative approaches and the tools of the mechanics of composite materials, respectively. The emphasis is put on a rational construction of the underlying random fields using the spatial statistics related to the material in question. Advantages and limitations of the methods are illustrated on the elastic analysis of an irregular masonry panel.
