000019137 520__ $$2eng$$aIn 2015, the Gorkha earthquake in Nepal with the magnitude of 8.1, which is a typical mountainous earthquake, caused tremendous loss in infrastructure system. Particularly hydropower plant and highway system were damaged seriously. Geological hazards and strong ground motion are the main reasons for the damage of lifeline engineering. This paper is to discuss the damage of hydropower plant and highway system based on field investigations firstly. Then a comparison of the earthquake damage and geological disaster during Wenchuan earthquakes in China is given. Finally, some seismic countermeasures of hydropower plant and highway system in mountainous area are proposed.
