A Fundamental Study on Soil Laboratory Testing Method for Nonlinear Seismic Ground Response Analysis

Abstract eng:
The authors have proposed a new testing method for obtaining appropriate parameters of deformation characteristics of soils necessary for time-domain nonlinear seismic ground response analysis, in which Level 2 earthquake is considered. The proposed method is composed of two types of testing method: a strain-controlled 1 cycle stage shear test and a straincontrolled constant strain cyclic shear test. The latter test can also provide information of soil liquefaction, which can be used for an assessment of soil liquefaction potential based on the theory of the accumulated dissipation energy. Trial tests by the proposed method using Toyoura sand were conducted and applicability of the method was examined.
