EFFECTIVE USE OF COAL ASH TO REDUCE ENVIRONMENTAL LOAD IN JAPAN

Abstract eng:
In Japan, coal-fired power is one of the main electric powers along with atomic power and natural gas -fired power. The annual amount of coal used for coal-fired power generation is approximately 80,000,000 tons and that of coal ash generated as by-product is approximately 9,000,000 tons, in the electric power industry. The importance of coal-fired power has risen and the generation of coal ash also has increased after the occurrence of the Great East Japan Earthquake. The rate of the effective use of the coal ash is approximately 100%, and it is used in the wide variety of fields such as cement concrete, civil engineering works, buildings, agriculture. Approximately 7,000,000 tons of the coal ash is used for the raw material of cement as the substitute of clay which is natural resources. However, it is important to promote other uses, because the increase in the amount of the use cannot be expected in the future. In the field of concrete, therefore, the use of the fly ash is active for the contribution to the environment load reduction, utilizing the excellent characteristics of the ash. In this paper, some examples are introduced.
