PARTITIONED COMPONENT MODE SYNTHESIS VIA A STIFFNESS APPROACH

Abstract eng:
A new formulation for structural component mode synthesis is presented based on the method of localized Lagrange multipliers. A key feature of the present formulation is the use of localized Lagrange multipliers for approximating the interaction along the partition boundaries. The present formulation leads to both of a stiffness-based component mode synthesis (S-CMS) as well as the flexibility-based component mode synthesis (F-CMS), which was presented in [2]-[3]. The proposed stiffness-based component mode synthesis method has shown an improved accuracy over with the flexibility-based component mode synthesis, and naturally facilitates transient direct time integration analysis. Numerical examples illustrate good performance of the present stiffness-based component mode synthesis method, as compared with several existing component mode synthesis methods such as the Craig-Bampton method and the flexibility-based component mode synthesis method.
