ON REDUCTION OF COMPUTATIONAL COST IN ANALYSIS OF SOIL-STRUCTURAL-INTERACTION

Abstract eng:
For analysis of soil structure interaction generally we should implement special techniques to adequately model the boundaries in infinity, while placing them in close distances from the structure. Altrnatively, we can approximate the unbounded media with a sufficiently large bounded model in order to approximately consider the effects of the unbounded ness and specifically the geometrical damping. In this paper, attention is paid to the computational cost considerable especially in the second approach stated above. It is then responded that whether the computational cost can be reduced by implementation of a specific computational cost reduction technique, that is proposed in 2008 by the second author and has been successful in implementation in analysis of many structural behaviours by different time integration methods. The question is studied numerically and the observation is explained theoretically. The study is in progress.
