A series of confined masonry walls were analytically investigated by finite element analysis for in-plane performance. In this study the normal surcharge pressure and tensile strength of masonry panel are selected as parameters. The masonry panel was assumed to be a continuum and studied by multisurface plasticity Rankine-Hill model with low orthotropic factor. Since the reinforced concrete (RC) bond-beams and tie columns may be cracked, it is assumed that the Rankine yield surface is used in their modeling. The discrete crack model is applied in the interfaces between the RC members and the masonry panel. A total of 6 cases was considered for normal surcharge pressure, which is applied separately on the confined masonry wall. The analytical results show that the selected parameter significantly and interactively influence the ultimate strength and ductility of a confined masonry wall. When the tensile strength of masonry panel is selected as a parameter, the analytical results demonstrate that this parameter slightly influences on ductility factor and initial stiffness of the confined masonry wall. Based on the results, the obtained capacity curves are compared.
