Two 5-storey and two 8-storey frames regular or with setbacks are combined together to produce nine different pairs of adjacent frames. These pairs of frames are first subjected to six strong ground motions compatible with their design process in order to study the effect of structural arrangement on the pounding phenomenon. It is concluded that in most cases, the pounding phenomenon is detrimental. The same pairs of frames are then subjected to five real seismic sequences in order to study the effect of multiple earthquakes on their pounding behavior. It is concluded that in most cases, the seismic sequences appear to be detrimental in comparison with the sigle seismic event.
