000022458 520__ $$2eng$$aAn analytical formulation has been developed in this article for free vibration analysis of honeycomb sandwich panels considering the inevitable uncertainty in structural configuration of the honeycomb core. Generally for analysis of honeycomb sandwich panels, the core is considered to be consisted of symmetric regular hexagonal cells. Unit cell approach is commonly used to obtain equivalent elastic properties of such honeycomb core. But the cells of the honeycomb core may not be perfectly regular in reality due to the presence of manufacturing uncertainty.Focus of the present study is to address the effect of irregularity in honeycomb core to the natural frequency of sandwich panels. An analytical approach has been employed to obtain the equivalent elastic properties of irregular honeycomb core in this study. Theory of sandwich plates has been applied using the equivalent elastic properties of irregular honeycomb core to obtain the natural frequencies. The results show that natural frequencies of sandwich panel varies considerably with diffrent degree of randomness in structural configuration of the honeycomb core.
