The different wind phenomena as instability, vortex shedding and buffeting response need to be assessed using experimental or simulated data. In experimental studies, the complex fluid-structure interaction between the cross section and the oncoming flow is investigated using a simplified framework. The ambition of building longer span bridges along the E39 road in Norway argues the demand of a more refined framework for the complex fluid-structure interaction. Norwegian Public Roads Administration (NPRA) looks into the use of twin deck girders to overcome the extreme spans in the ferry free E39 project. The use of aerodynamic derivatives for predicting the self-excited forces are widely accepted for a single deck girder, but less research has been conducted on twin deck sections. In this paper a fairly bluff twin deck section model is tested in forced vibration tests in the wind tunnel at NTNU to verify the use of aerodynamic derivatives for modelling of self-excited forces. The tests show that for high reduced velocities, there are clear higher order components of the self-excited forces in torsion.
