000022589 520__ $$2eng$$aIn this paper, we will review the historical London wind climate – as recorded by the meteorological stations at Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Southend, Luton and City Airports, and the former London Weather Centre in Holburn – to understand the level of uncertainty with respect to the results of a wind microclimate (i.e. pedestrian comfort and safety) assessment. We will assess and quantify the uncertainty related to the assumptions made in selecting the data source and manipulating that data into a usable form for assessment. Recommendations will be made relating to necessary further work in this area, and to begin to work toward an accepted, well-defined approach for wind microclimate assessments in London.
