The uses of cultural heritage for innovative development of rural communities

Abstract eng:
Understanding cultural heritage in the contemporary world requires a consideration of its role in addressing current socio-political and economic conditions. Although we are aware that the solving of contemporary problems requires a creative and stimulating environment with connected and cooperating stakeholders, the fragmentary operation of politicians, experts, and entrepreneurs and the passivity of the local population remain crucial problems. Thus, this paper reflects on problems, conditions and possible practices of using cultural heritage for sustainable development, especially for fostering different kinds of networks for stimulating a synergistic connection and complementary cooperation of different stakeholders in rural local communities. The paper first discusses theoretical concepts of uses of culture as a key element in establishing sustainable development, and then outlines problems, good practices and concrete ideas to achieve successful collaboration through the presentation of the European project THETRIS and especially the results of training activities.
