Urban regeneration of the residential compound built during the 20th century in Seville. Neighbourhood of Nuestra Señora del Carmen

Abstract eng:
During the 20th century, the main European cities experienced an unprecedented population explosion. Therefore, the authorities began to promote the construction of complete neighbourhoods. In the particular case of Seville, some interesting neighbourhoods emerged, such as Nuestra Señora del Carmen. Nowadays, a lot of research is being done on these residential compounds, which are not able to meet the new needs. As for Nuestra Señora del Carmen, an important aspect to be considered is that this suburb is a significant heritage of functionalist architecture of the 20th century. Moreover, since we are working on a neighbourhood basis, it is not enough to understand the patrimonial heritage only from the architectural, but also from the social point of view. Therefore, in this research our aim is to deal with the urban regeneration of this singular place, and give an answer to it from 1) the social, 2) environmental, and 3) heritage point of view.
