The implementation of these new types of buildings has bean a useful testing ground for a "strong" technology. This transforms the raw material for the need to adopt large span (the train-shed), for the needs of lighting and ventilation for the mass-production and the prefabrication of components and systems. In the third millennium, railway stations are asked to be places of exploration of a "soft" technology, infrastructures for the Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Stations can support the development of a sustainable ethnic and globalized society. This paper introduces a new idea for the historic railway stations not just as infrastructure finalized to transportation. Today we need to intervene on the railway stations, focusing on their role of physical and virtual connectivity, orienting the changing patterns of use for spaces. The case study presented is the historic railway station Napoli-Mergellina that belongs to the old direct line Rome-Naples. The construction and operation of the High-Speed train system have released this station from the circulation of national intercity trains. Today, this historical line is part of the Regional Metro System in Campania.
