Application of the Fluent Software in Civil Engineering

Abstract eng:
As CFD (computational fluid dynamics) softwares has been under a great development in the past ten years it seems to be possible to use them for civil engineering applications. We considered different types of problems where wind has a significant effect on structures. The main goal is to determine forces on an arbitrary body due to certain airflow around it. These forces can be quasi-steady or unsteady. If we ever calculated loading on a structure there is nothing stop us calculating the displacements too. Generally structural deformations do not have significant role on the flow field around the structure, however, in case of very flexible buildings deformations can modifiy forces induced by the wind. This is a fluid-structure interaction problem. Any of these issues can be handled by the FLUENT and the ANSYS commercial softwares.
