Geotechnické problémy stavieb na zaplavovaných územiach

Abstract eng:
GEOTECHNICAL PROBLEMS OF THE STRUCTURES ON THE FLOODED TERRITORIES. During floods in the Slovak territory water levels in the rivers and river basins rise from 6 m to 10 m. As a result there are unfavorable loading conditions for building structures and their subsoil, the properties of soil deteriorate and many structures get badly damaged or completely destroyed. Failures and breakdowns can be caused by intensive hydrodynamic influences; light structures, foundations of dams, bridges and other structures can be undermined or washed away and due to the erosion of riverbanks the adjacent objects and the ones that were built of unsuitable building materials can be destroyed. At present we have available such geotechnical methods and technologies which can secure stability of new and existing structures on the territories submitted to the floods. A method of how to prevent the destruction is to improve soil properties or use pile foundations.
