Abstract eng:
General principles of structural elements design for durability and their application for compression members are presented in this paper. Environmental influences in the case of material deterioration due to corrosion cause the loss of member resistance, but the limit states method does not directly enables design and verification for failures caused by material deterioration. The time variant loss of compression member resistance was computed for specific corrosion models to express the time dependent approximation function allowing for corrosion degradation. The design member resistance can be obtained by means of buckling member resistance multiplied by the time dependent function considering corrosion degradation effects during the member lifetime.
