3-D Numerical Model of Bearing System of St. Vitus Cathedral

Abstract eng:
The St. Vitus Cathedral is a part of the cultural heritage of Czech nation. Tendency to preserve this great building leads to the monitoring of load-bearing structure of the Cathedral. The part of this monitoring is thermo mechanical analysis of its bearing system. By the numerical model of the bearing system was simulated the distribution of temperatures in the structure. This distribution of temperatures was the input to do the stress analysis of the structure. Supporting of the numerical model by springs with real stiffness leads to more realistic behavior of the numerical model. Bearing system of the Cathedral is periodically strained by the temperature effects which can cause the origin of the fatigue cracks.
