Interval Finite Element Method for Analysis of Uncertainty in Mechanics Problems

Abstract eng:
In this paper an interval approach for the treatment of parameter uncertainty for linear static structural mechanics problems is presented. Uncertain parameters are introduced in the form of unknown but bounded quantities (intervals). The modified version of the element-byelement penalty-based interval finite-element analysis [7] is developed. Material and load uncertainties for beam and frame structures are handled simultaneously. Presented numerical examples illustrate the ability of the method to maintain very sharp solution.
