Excitation Earthquake Functions of Near-Fault Ground Motions

Abstract eng:
Near-fault ground motions are characterised, in case of inter-plate earthquakes, by pulse actions with large periods and velocities, and moderate ones in case of intra-plate earthquakes. These aspects impose structural demands, very different compared with the ones resulting from code provisions. The paper presents an analysis the difference of calculation by standard and using the special artificial excitation function of near-fault ground motions. We calculated the acceleration response spectrum of near-fault ground motions and compared them with the Eurocode 8 in case of the same magnitude. The maximum value of the spectrum and his time period in case of near-fault ground motions was larger than the values from the standards.
