000002724 520__ $$2eng$$aAn efficient algorithm is presented for the formation of cycle bases of graphs corresponding to sparse cycle-member incidence matrices, leading to the formation of highly sparse flexibility matrices for structures. A modified ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm, as a new branch of optimization techniques is applied for formation of minimal cycle bases. The application of the algorithm is illustrated through the practical models.
