Method of Reducing the Range of Numerical Analysis of a Building Exposed to Paraseismic Loads

Abstract eng:
A numerical analysis of buildings exposed to paraseismic influences is sometimes carried out making use of the load history method. Such a way of calculations requires the consideration of numerous cases of dynamic loads caused e.g. by earth quakes due to mining operations. This analysis consumes a much time. The present paper deals with the way of reducing the expenditure of time by shortening the duration of representative kinematic excitations taken into account in the calculations. Basing on two criterial functions, viz. Husid’s function and short - time mean power, the approximate position of the extremum of the dynamic response of the analyzed building can be localized. This permits to take in numerical calculations into account only that interval of the duration of the excitation, which is rationally justified.
