000002742 520__ $$2eng$$aThe main scope of the article is the coparison of numerical and experimental analysis of dowel joint. The analysis consisted of three steps. At first, the elasto-plastic material parameters have been defined. In the second step a singe dowel-type connection has been modelled and investigated. The elements that were used to model steel and timber members had bi-linear material behaviour. Finally a 3D non-linear finite element analysis was performed using contact elements to describe the behaviour between the steel dowels and the bolt holes. For the analysis the software ANSYS was used. The obtained load-deformation curves have been compared with experimental test data. An examination of the predicted response showed an overall good agreement with the experimental results.
