The stone is a limestone with different variations which can be outlined as dolomitic, fossilferous, marly and sandstone. During the restoration of the monuments, many architectural elements made of the stone were found in fragments which have been subsequently identified. The issue was to design a conservation mortar to reestablish the monolithic property of the architectural elements. The methodology that was developed included the measurement of the mechanical and physical properties of the stone in order to set the requirements for a bonding mortar. A number of different mortar compositions were designed and prepared. The raw materials selected were lime, hydraulic lime, metakaolin and Portland cement. The mortars were applied to bond stone specimens and the effectiveness of the bond between the stone and the mortar was evaluated. The selected mortar has compatibility to the stone characteristics.
