000003329 520__ $$2eng$$aThe new seismic standards permit the analysis of structure in the elastic-plastic region of its material behaviour. The plastic reserves of structural elements may be implemented in the linear elastic analysis by the ductility factor. This implemetation is given by reduction of seismicity load or by reduction of individual components of structural response. The second case of ductility implementation is more exact approach. The purpose of the paper is on the example of RC cooling towers to show the importance of the realistic using of ductility factor.
