A comparison of the procedure ASTM E 837-1 and the integral method for nonuniform residual stresses measuring

Abstract eng:
American standard ASTM E 837-01 covers the procedure for determining residual stresses by the hole-drilling strain gauge method. This test method is applicable in those cases where the stresses do not vary significantly with depth. This paper describes the comparison of the non-uniform residual stresses determined by ASTM E 837-01 and by the integral method, which is proposed for the calculating non-uniform residual stresses. The Non-uniform residual stresses are simulated by a linear function for some cases. The calibration coefficients for integral method and for procedure ASTM E 837-01 are stated for the strain gauge rosette RY 61 S of HBM Company. The relaxed strains are simulated by the finite element method (FEM) by the program ANSYS.
