A specimen volume is discretized using two different types of spring networks - a truss lattice and a rigid-body-spring network. The first model is valuable for its simplicity, nodes are interconnected by ideally brittle springs bearing only an axial force. The paper shows that such model is not suitable for more difficult type of load (mixed-mode experiments). The second type, the rigid-body-spring network, is able to simulate fracture process even for mixed-mode experiments and does not loose a physical explanation for any part of modeling procedure. Unfortunately, both models exhibit a mesh size dependency, which is described in the paper via an extensive parameter study. 000003735 540__ $$aText je chráněný podle autorského zákona č. 121/2000 Sb. 000003735 653__ $$a 000003735 7112_ $$aEngineering Mechanics 2008$$cSvratka (CZ)$$d2008-05-12 / 2008-05-15$$gEM2008 000003735 720__ $$aEliáš, J. 000003735 8560_ $$ffischerc@itam.cas.cz 000003735 8564_ $$s2504038$$uhttps://invenio.itam.cas.cz/record/3735/files/Elias_FT.pdf$$y Original version of the author's contribution as presented on CD, , page 180. 000003735 962__ $$r3717 000003735 980__ $$aPAPER
