Influence of nonproportional damping on free vibration of slender structures

Abstract eng:
This paper deals with the influence of the nonproportional damping on the free vibration of a slender structures. It is focused on the mutual comparison of proportionally and nonproportionally damped discrete models and their teoretical solution. It is shown, that the solution for nonproportional damping is characterized by the movement of the vibration nodes along the structure. It is caused by different phase between each component of displacement vector. This phenomenon is presented on the example of tall structure - TV tower. The installation of a vibration absorber decreases the negative wind effects and changes the whole structure into nonproportinally damped system with nonstationary location of the nodes.
