Effect of surface layers on the propensity of disk brakes to frictionally excited thermoelastic instability during extreme braking

Abstract eng:
In the present contribution, the effect of a brake disk surface layer on the appearance and the transient behaviour of hot spots is investigated. The model of frictionally excited thermoelastic instability derived in Vold ich & Morávka (2003) is used. It is outlined that the surface layer may cause undesirable difficulties.
