Internet-Based Building Damage Data Collection System

There is a critical need to collect building damage information quickly and efficiently in the aftermath of hurricanes and tornadoes. This paper proposes a web-based data collection system designed for the use of average homeowners. Several important issues in system design are addressed to ensure the consistence, quality and quantity of the collected data. The emphasis is placed on how to develop a userfriendly interface to assist the homeowners and facilitate the entire reporting process. The outcome of this research would benefit wind engineers, emergency officials, and insurance companies.
