A Systematic Finite Element-Based Buffeting Formulation

Abstract eng:
This paper presents a new finite element formulation for buffeting analysis. By maintaining consistency in the treatment of the buffeting and aeroelastic forces in a general finite element framework, the formulation is considerably simplified. The proposed method can model the aerodynamic coupling effects as well as the general wind loading on several different types of elements without special treatment. In-depth verifications are made through a comparison of the results of the analysis with wind tunnel test results from a three dimensional aeroelastic model and a section model.
