Downburst induced dynamic responses of tall buildings

Abstract eng:
Wind field data from CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) analyses of isolated downbursts were used to investigate the dynamic responses of a tall building due to these high intensity winds. Structural dynamic responses of a tall building from downbursts are compared with the responses from the equivalent boundary layer winds with matched 10-metre wind velocity. Downburst wind profiles depend on the size of the downburst and the radial distance from the centre of the storm. Different downburst profiles with matching speeds at 10m were obtained by changing the building location in the radial direction. The effects of jet heights from the ground on the structural responses are also investigated
