Brazil Storm Catarina: Hurricane or Extratropical Cyclone?

Abstract eng:
A refined Detached Eddy Simulation (DES) computational model is proposed and it is employed to calculate wind-induced pressure on the Texas Tech University test building. The concept of this model is based on the original DES introduced by Spalart et al. [1]. It is a combination of the two-layer model and the Large Eddy Simulation (LES) model. The near-wall layer of the viscosity-affected region is modeled by the two-layer model while the outer region is resolved by invoking LES model. Representative computational results obtained using this model are presented and they compared with experimental data. It is noted that an overall good agreement between the compared data can be obtained at a reasonable computational costs.
