A Comprehensive Look at Wind Loading on Freestanding Walls and Signs

Abstract eng:
In this paper, all recent literature dealing with wind on freestanding walls and signs was reviewed and summarized. Data from the recent wind tunnel and full-scale studies was extracted from the literature and shown together in this paper. The data was examined and trends in the data were used to develop equations to describe the pressure coefficients. Trends were examined with regards to aspect and clearance ratios for area averaged mean net pressure coefficients over the entire area of the freestanding wall or sign. Mean net pressure coefficients for regions along a freestanding wall or sign were examined with regards to aspect ratios on a region-by-region basis. Finally, tables were presented for use in a design code or standard.
