We apply our rainflow cycle counting to convert the earthquake acceleration time series into equivalent pulses of ground acceleration which could be later summed in a scalar way. We then use the Miner (1945) law of cumulative fatigue damage to estimate the damage to a reference structure.
 C=∑<sup>k</sup><sub>i=1</sub> ni/Ni
 We apply our technique to three sites at Koyna Warna seismic zone (Gupta et. al., 1972) for eight earthquakes occurring in a period of two months. We estimate that a weak element loses a life equivalent to a fatigue index of 3.2% in two months whereas a strong element loses 0.05% in the same period.
