The Bureau of Urban Development, Tokyo Metropolitan Government, surveys district-based vulnerability to earthquake disasters every five years. The results of the sixth survey were published in 2008, and they detail the vulnerabilities to building collapse and spreading fire.
The seventh survey of district-based vulnerability to earthquake disaster is in progress, and the definitions of soil classes are currently being revised. The number of soil classes will be changed from 10 to 12 in the seventh survey. Hence, the site amplifications should also be reevaluated in accordance with the soil class definitions.
In this study, the site amplifications with respect to the soil classes were evaluated based on ground motion records obtained by SUPREME (Super-Dense Real-Time Monitoring of Earthquakes), which is operated by Tokyo Gas Co., Ltd., and regional geomorphologic maps installed in the Japan Seismic Hazard Information Station (J-SHIS) and SUPREME systems. Based on the results, site amplifications for the seventh survey of district-based vulnerability to earthquake disaster are proposed.
