HIERARCHICAL RELATIONS FOR THE APPARENT YIELD STRENGTH DOMAINS OF HETEROGENEOUS MATERIALS

Abstract eng:
The kinematical and static variational principles of limit analysis are applied to systematically study the influences of size and uniform boundary conditions on the apparent yield strength of an elastic-perfectly plastic heterogeneous body whose size is smaller than a representative volume element. By partitioning a specimen into smaller ones and by considering uniform velocity and traction boundary conditions, hierarchical relations are established between the corresponding kinematical and static apparent yield strength domains.
