000004677 520__ $$2eng$$aShear band experiences localized large shear strain. At large strain, the strain rate at the shear band is much higher than that outside the shear band. This unique phenomenon brings out some uncommon micro-mechanical behavior of the material. Those are rate dependency, rotation of grains, grain interaction, and soil grains-pore fluid interaction. This study presents the coupled micro-mechanical behavior of soils considering above factors of the geo-materials.
