Parametric studies have been carried out to examine the behavior of the primary structure (i.e., the structure being isolated) and the auxiliary mass of the proposed shock isolator. The simulated responses of the structure with and without the isolator to ground motions are examined in this paper. The energy spectral response of the SDOF structure is also described. It is concluded that this nonlinear passive control system induces a strongly localized nonlinear normal mode that is partially confined to the secondary substructure. It performance is found to be effective in limiting structural response.
